Chestnut

The Stura Valley has a rich and varied heritage of floral and tree varieties. Among these some have developed more and are more exploited by the work of man, thus helping to define more clearly the landscape of the Valley. Emblematic is the case of chestnut woods, characteristic, in particular, of the landscapes of the middle and lower valley. Where there are also countless centuries-old trees (Roccasparvera, Valloriate, Rittana...). In the Stura Valley the chestnut cultivation has been an activity of great economic importance in the past and is still an important activity for the inhabitants of the valley who continue to devote time and care to the cleaning and collection of the precious “poor's’ bread”. For those who want to deepen their knowledge of this fascinating world we recommend you to visit the Chestnut Museum, present in Valloriate since 2001.
