Legendary ascents in Terre del Monviso

Between June and July come to Cuneo Province to challenge with your bike three legendary arrivals, famous by the achievement of professional riders during great stage races.

In summer 2022 the Unioni Montane Valle Stura, Valle Grana, Valle Maira, Valle Varaita and Monviso organize “Scalate leggendarie nelle Terre del Monviso”, a calendar of bicycle climbs through hills and high-altitude arrivals made famous by the achievement of professional runners during great stage races.

In schedule there is the ascent of Colle Fauniera with three different routes available from Grana, Maira and Stura valley, June Saturday 18th; Pian del Re in Po valley, July Saturday 16th, and Colle dell’Agnello in Varaita valley, September Sunday 4th on occasion of the now well-known event L’Agnel 2744.

Moreover, for the most trained passioned, three days of consecutive ascents are scheduled, with all three arrivals to Fauniera-Agnello-Pian del Re in sequence, from July Monday 4th to July Wednesday 6th. This option provides, between a stage and another, the possibility of overnight stays in hotels specially equipped for the shelter of bicycles.

During the selected days, roads will be closed to traffic and reserved to the cyclists.

The event is organized with the technical collaboration of Vigor Cycling Team, La Rampignado, Cicli Mattio, Consorzio Turistico Valle Maira and the participation on every event is free.

Technical information

The Colle Fauniera can be climbed by three different itineraries. From Valle Stura, the maximum slope is 12.5%, for a total height difference of 1.170m on a 15km track; from Valle Grana the max slope is 14% and two point of starting are available, with total height difference of 720m or 1.650m on respectively 8km and 22km tracks; from valle Maira the max slope is 12% and has two point of starting, with total height difference of 965m or 1.535m on respectively 12km and 21km tracks that comprehends also the overcoming of Colle di Esischie.

The Colle dell’Agnello ascent, starting from Pontechianale, has max slope of 15%, for a total height difference of 1.620m on a 14km track.

The Pian del Re ascent, which starts from Crissolo, has max slope of 12%, with a total height difference of 690m on a 9km track.
