Rittana / Must see

Located in a side valley dominated by the homonymous Alp, Rittana counts about 40 hamlets, among which Saint Mauro, the seat of the Town Hall, stands out. Of ancient origin, the council territory is linked to the stream that crosses it, as evidenced by the toponym in use which derives from “ritanus-ritana”, a term that in late-Latin indicated the small streams.
Arriving in the Saint Mauro hamlet, the Parish Church of Saints Giovanni Battista and Mauro (formerly Sanctuary) is worth a visit, an 18th century building characterized by a large external arcade, partly adorned with frescoes, on the model used in many wayside shrines. Also, the artistic clock on the bell tower of the Brotherhood of Conception of the Blessed Virgin deserves a visit. There are also many frescoes related to the popular religious traditions on many of the Hamlet’s walls. Among the hamlets, Paraloup and Chiot Rosa deserve a special mention for being the partisan command of the Justine and Freedom formations headquarters. The architectural recovery project of the Paraloup hamlet represents an internationally known case and the local refuge animates the valley with an interesting cultural offer.

The Mudri "Museo diffuso di Rittana" is a stimulating artistic exhibition conceived in many sections that propose a discovery of the territory in the name of sharing the beauty and imagination of art. The center of the initiative is the ex-rectory where There are several interesting exhibitions on offer: One room contains the public collection of the Pinacoteca di Rittana consisting of dozens of works linked by the Twenty by Twenty centimeter format, while two rooms offer a nice journey into the painting of Alpine landscapes by historical artists of the area.
